Based
on the company's vision of theatre of creating dialogue between differing
cultures and points of view, “The Dialogues Project” is socially-minded theatre project in which members of
Modern Times creative team collaborate with theatre artists in areas of the world affected by
war.
The first incarnation of “The Dialogues Project” will occur in Mostar, Bosnia
and Herzegovina. As a vehicle for this work, the company will use one of its
award-winning productions
Aurash, a humanist fable about a borderless world.
In collaboration with Bosnian theatre artist Husein Orucević, the company will
translate, rehearse and produce the play using youth, war veterans, and other
citizens from the different cultural communities to play the roles.
“The
Dialogues Project” is a unique combination of theatre, documentary film,
conflict resolution mediation and research.
The
conflict resolution and research components of the project are being led by the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN) in collaboration
with the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution (CICR).
A
documentary film (directed by Peter Farbridge and produced by
Productions Jeux d'Ombres)
will be made of the theatre rehearsals and performances. This
documentary project will produce a feature-length film as well as hour-long versions
and educational videos for Canadian and European
markets.
